Helen graduated from Massey University, New Zealand in 2007 and went straight to work for Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. Initially based in the hospital, she dealt predominately with neonatal foals and broodmares, and also a wide variety of equine medicine cases. She went on to be employed by some of the major thoroughbred studs in the Bluegrass region, with routine breeding work and stallion care, as well as artificial breeding and embryo transfers of sport horses. Her final year in America was spent as a veterinarian with the Sports Medicine team, travelling around the States supporting the clients on the hunter/jumper circuit. On returning to New Zealand, Helen worked as an equine veterinarian for Southern Rangitikei Veterinary Services, and returned to England in 2011 to work as a stud and sport horse vet at Bourton Vale Equine Clinic in Gloucestershire. She founded her own practice, VT Vets in 2015. 

DR KATRINA BROWN BVETMED MRCVS
EQUINE VET

Katrina graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2016 and went on to work in equine practice in Warwickshire. Her specific areas of interest are lameness and poor performance, laser surgery, diagnostic imaging and endoscopy/gastroscopy. She is trained in equine acupuncture and is currently studying for a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. In her spare time, Kat can be found riding her horse or training for running events with her dog Icarus.

DR MARY BATTERSBY BVSC MRCVS
EQUINE VET

Mary graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2019 and went on to complete a hospital-based internship and a further two years of ambulatory practice at a renowned equine hospital in Gloucestershire. She has a particular interest in sports medicine and internal medicine. Mary has a black Labrador called Nellie, and enjoys all country pursuits.

EQUINE VET

Katherine qualified from Bristol in 1988 and has worked in equine practice since 2001. She spent two stud seasons working in New Zealand, then spent three years working in Newmarket before joining a large practice in Gloucestershire as a stud vet. She is experienced in all aspects of stud work including TB work, neonatology and AI using fresh, chilled and frozen semen.

EQUINE VET (intern)

Will graduated from the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine in 2022 and joined us on our two-year Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) that summer. Will has previously evented to 2* level and enjoys playing university polo in his spare time.

DR PHOEBE MAROT BVSC MRCVS
EQUINE VET (INTERN)

Phoebe graduated from the University of Bristol in 2023 and joined us on our two-year Graduate Development Programme (VetGDP) after seeing lots of practice with us as a student. She has a keen interest in stud work and minor surgery. In her spare time she is an excellent baker and keeps the practice well stocked with cakes.

MAT WATERS
VETERINARY & AI TECHNICIAN

Mat joined VT Vets in 2021 after working over 10 years in the grooming industry looking after hunters and event horses. Mat was keen to expand his equine knowledge from a veterinary perspective with a particular interest in stud work. In his spare time he enjoys walking his dogs and catching up with friends.

ALICE WALKER RVN
VETERINARY NURSE

Alice graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2012 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy. She has ridden from a young age and has worked in professional eventing and show jumping yards, specialising in breaking and training young horses. She qualified as a RCVS-accredited veterinary nurse in 2021.

SAM AUSTIN
CLINICAL DIRECTOR

Sam joined the practice in May 2022 after many years of experience working within the veterinary industry. Outside of work you will find Sam either riding, going on long dog walks or tending to her plants in the garden.

HANNAH HARTE
PRACTICE MANAGER

Hannah joined the practice March 2023 after previously working at another veterinary practice for the past 8 years. In her spare time she enjoys spending time on the farm at home, riding her horse Edi and spending time with the dogs.
